I've been a musical person since basically ever because I had the sheer dumb luck to have the combination of 1) living close enough to NYC that it's an easy day trip and 2) having a grandmother who allocates basically her Entire 'fun' budget to going to shows and taking people to shows, and who 3) is a goddamn master of TKTS, which is Broadway's "we'll sell the seats that didn't get sold for today at 30-50% off just to fill those extra seats" thing.
Of course, that also means I'm usually years late to the big name shows, because those never have open seats on the discount lines until they hit the Phantom of the Opera/Les Miserables/The Producers point where they've been running for years.
Also means I tend to get blindsided by fandoms popping up. I'm still confused over why Newsies got a sudden popularity boost 1-2 years ago.
