An uncomfortable number of gay media (gay specifically, less so the LGBTQ+ and queer places) are hailing the support group OC as ground-breaking and I'm quite over it. Like, yes, this is technically breaking new ground within the MCU, but that's not exactly... IDK, there's just not much that it does for me, I guess.

As you say, there are other narrative paths that Steve could be taken that lead to a completed character arc that both removes him from the metanarrative and doesn't require him to die, but not with the timeframe the film has, and not with the backstory and constraints the film is working within. To just do the entire narrative of Endgame, and the entire narrative of Steve's MCU storyline of poor integration and battle fatigue and self sacrifice and inability to keep his damn mouth shut, and just.... flip a switch and say, "okay, now he's going to live the next 50 years being a perfect suburban househusband who sits quietly, raises Peggy's children, and never tells anyone about the whole Nazi Space Aliens thing at all" like. That's not plausible at all to me, and, IDK, it's hard to swallow, I guess.
