I can't believe I'm about to say this but...

I don't like the way the crew of Shera and the Princesses of Power behaves in public. I don't like the way they shit-talk their peers making related series, like VLD. I don't like the way several of them court antishippers.

But I do think it is awfully interesting that at approximately the same time we know the edits were being made to Voltron season 8, that's when the SPOP crew started really talking shit about Voltron.

It's awfully interesting that this crew, working under the same studio and therefore subjected to less stringent NDA restrictions, just so happened to complain about the exact things that we now know were being fucked by the S8 edits.

It's almost as if the SPOP crew had heard about the shitshow going on next door at VLD and, knowing that their own property (another toy-driven 80s media re-vamp with strong influences from anime and ATLA, and a large capital-F Fandom following) might be next on the block for that kind of meddling, tried to speak out.

Badly, mind you. Unacceptably, in my opinion.

And yet, it's awfully fucking interesting.

Well... the comments started when fans mocked the poorly done transformation sequence in the first trailer, which dropped on September 10th. On September 13th Ki Hyun Ryu posted about drawing his last Shiro pic (the wedding scene). So they probably *knew* the situation with VLD studio, but instead of feeling compassion (whoever trashed the series destroyed the work of many writers, animators, voice actors and musicians who put all their hearts into the story), they reacted with mockery and proclamations of superiority (despite also being in danger of becoming another series trashed at last second).
My wacky theory is that the studio that animated She-Ra might be responsible for animating new sequences and re-animating scenes in VLDs8. Like, some scenes have the feel of "animesque but poorly" that all of She-Ra has.

Even wackier theory: Dreamworks sabotaged VLD to promote 3below, an animation that premiered DAYS after VLDs8 and whose plot follows VLDs1 so damn closely: basically the same, but with alien teens on Earth instead of Earth teens in space. Before She-Ra, DW was piting crews of VLD and Trollhunters against each other (it backfired). Trollhunters had a lot of positive media attention for its final season and a chill fanbase. VLD had little media attention until The Shiro Reveal and notoriously terrible fanbase. 3below is a spin off of Trollhunters that is VERY similar to VLD. Make out of it what you will.
